Many of you might have guessed it, but “Ghetto” contains a sample of one of my all-time favourite hip hop tracks called Shook Ones Pt. II by the incredible Mobb Deep. After Prodigy sadly passed away, I wanted to use something from their - in my opinion - best track, and use it in one of my house tracks. Shook Ones pt. II has so many feelings to it that I just came up with the ideas for this track in one day and just started producing. The original piano-sample comes from Herbie Hancock - “Jessica”, and is just brilliantly transformed to this deep hardcore piano sample, which is my favorite thing in the instrumental. I was asked, where the titel came from - maybe the ghetto-thoughts came to me, because the track is used in 8 Mile, where Eminem lives in the ghetto and tries to become something. I don’t know. It just spoke to me. The vocal is an old sample, but this “in the beginning there was the ghetto, and I escaped from it” just fit perfectly with the whole track and the story behind it. I couldn’t think of a better vocal.
